The fight reminded me of a French infantry column assaulting a British infantry line in the Napoleonic Wars!
This part of the battle turned out to be a real slogging match with neither side ever gaining the upper hand. Eventually, the Gondorians were forced to withdraw because they were in danger of being engulfed by the superior Modor numbers on their flanks.
